The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) reported that Mount Merapi, which had erupted Tuesday killing at least 33 people, erupted again on Thursday afternoon.PVMBG said Merapi began erupting again at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, spewing hot clouds of ash.
“It's not as big as the eruption on Oct. 26. Its clouds only traveled a distance of 3.5 kilometers,” said Surono, PVMBG chief, as quoted by kompas.com.
Most of the residents have been evacuated from the area. It was unclear whether the new activity was a sign of another major blast to come.
