Homemade Flying Saucer

A former Chinese farmer with little formal schooling who later worked as an automobile mechanic has designed and built at least one ultralight that briefly flew (before crashing) -- he has now moved on to a flying saucer. Shu Mansheng's project is a structure powered by eight motorcycle engines mounted vertically. They drive individual fixed-pitch wooden propellers. The engines are arranged in an inner and outer group of four engines each. An open cockpit located in the center is mounted above spokes that both support the engines and extend to an outer circular ring. Supporters will be hoping for a more positive outcome than the innovator's last attempt.

Shu Mansheng built his first aircraft in October 2010. It was saved by an inadequate powerplant that failed to lift it off the ground. A second effort was aborted when the innovator determined it would be too heavy to fly. This April Shu built another aircraft in a span of about 15 days. He managed to fly that one over approximately 30 meters at an altitude less than seven meters above the ground before he crashed. Shu Mansheng has been able to focus on his aviation exploits after some advances in his career led him to a financial windfall. He retired from his day job and now works full-time on his aviation adventures. His latest scheme has consumed the equivalent of nearly $10,000. His dream is to create a school "where kids can learn things not taught in regular school," he told WorldTourist.com.

The round steel flying device, which cost more than 20,000 yuan, was the fifth model made by Shu, a junior middle school graduate. It measures up to 5.5 meters in diameter, and is powered by eight motorcycle engines. (Jason Lee / Reuters)

Too Bad: Helicopter Accident
Apparently you don’t have to have brains to be a helicopter pilot. Check out this to see the reason for the destruction of this helicopter. Too Bad isn't it? BTW. Luckily this does not happen in the air..

Stealth Jet Bomber' Taranis Robot

Named after the Celtic god of thunder, British defense firm BAE Systems officially revealed its high-tech unmanned stealth jet, Taranis. Equivalent in size to that of a Hawk jet, Taranis is equipped with stealth equipment and an ‘autonomous’ artificial intelligence system.

With the ability to carry heavy payloads (bombs and missiles) and to penetrate deep into the enemy territory, the unmanned jet is a silent killer capable of precisely striking targets at long range, even in another continent.

Taranis has onboard sensors to carry out intelligence and surveillance on enemy territory and can be remote controlled via satellite communications from anywhere in the world. With Cutting edge design, Taranis is stealthy, fast, and can defend itself against manned and unmanned enemy aircrafts. The aircraft is a prototype and an informal partnership of the UK MoD and industry British engineering firms including BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, QinetiQ and GE Aviation. Test flights for the Taranis plane are due to start in 2011.

Beautiful And Futuristic Luxury Boat That Turns Into Airplane | Sailing Aircraft

Designer Yelken Octuri developed a design of a futuristic sailboat that can transform into a plane.
He named his creation Sailing Aircraft.

The boat/airplane can put its wings in horizontal position when it is in plane mode, with the wingspan being 377 meters.

But when the vehicle is in the sail mode, it positions its wings vertically (185 meters)

It would be interesting to note that Captain Silvan Mariach was the one who commissioned this futuristic Sailing Aircraft to Aerocoche Company. Besides being able to sail in the sea and fly above the ground, the vehicle offers luxurious space for four passengers.

According to Octuri the aircraft features a Recchia & Husser engine, 2 propellers in its tail and 2 lateral panels that can flip over horizontally, thus turning into 2 small pontoons. Because of the sliding canopy, the cockpit can become completely open.

Here Is The Beautiful Concept Aircraft And Futuristic Boat That Turns Into Airplane by Designer Yelken Octuri :
